Liberia’s severe shortage of doctors means our free mobile clinics are often the only lifeline. We meet families battling malaria, typhoid, and other health challenges with no way to get help. Your support brings hope with real relief and compassionate life-saving care delivered directly to the people who need it most.

With almost no access to basic vision care, many adults struggle with poor near-vision that makes reading, working, caring for their families, or even making a phone call incredibly difficult. At our free mobile clinics, we meet people who have lived for years unable to see up close – often losing income and independence as a result. A simple pair of reading glasses brings immediate relief and renewed hope.

• Who it serves: people with vision problems, especially the elderly and low-income adults

• Results so far: 1,436 reading glasses distributed in rural Montserrado County

Across Liberia, a silent water crisis is unfolding: an estimated 70% of rural communities rely on broken or contaminated wells, leaving families vulnerable to waterborne diseases. We meet adults and children walking miles for unsafe water, and children falling sick from sources that should sustain them. Regular maintenance is essential to keep wells functioning and prevent them from falling into disrepair.

• Who it serves: rural families and communities without reliable access to safe drinking water

• Results so far: 43 wells repaired, serving 11,050 people; over 100 hand pumps repaired or installed since founding

One year of school can change a child’s future. Our scholarships cover tuition, uniform, and school supplies – everything a child needs to stay in school for the year.

• Who it serves: children and young people from disadvantaged families
• Frequency: weekly
• Results so far: 100 school chairs distributed to public schools; school supplies for 1,000 students; scholarship program launched for 100 students in public schools
• Cost to sponsor: $150 covers one year of school for one child

CARE supports sustainable farming to promote food security and economic growth, helping vulnerable families address immediate food insecurity through agriculture.

• Results so far: hundreds of bags of rice and farming tools distributed to vulnerable families

CARE responds swiftly when crises, disasters, or unexpected community challenges arise. When our in-country teams have the skills and resources to act, we mobilize in close partnership with communities to deliver targeted, life-changing support.

Case Study: Totota Fuel Tanker Disaster

On December 26, 2023, a fuel tanker explosion struck Totota, Lower Bong County, Liberia, when local residents were trying to collect leaking fuel from the overturned vehicle. Over 70 people died and an estimated 100 were seriously injured.

CARE’s mobile medical team organized emergency burn-care clinics to clean wounds, manage pain, and prevent infection – saving lives and restoring health. Over 40 victims received treatment twice each week for four weeks. Wounds were carefully cleaned and redressed to reduce scarring and infection.
